It feels great when things start to fall into place...For the last 2 weeks, I have been going to my classroom and trying to get it ready for the new school year. While I am not DONE by any means, I thought it would be nice to let you all know/see what I have been working on. I have spent days, nights, and weekends cleaning, stapling, leveling, labeling, hanging, moving, laminating, you name it....I have done it all.
The science behind my classroom? Why I do not have any primary colors, hanging store bought posters, etc? Well, I deeply believe in the classroom being the 'third teacher.' I try to incorporate as many organic elements (plants...tons of plants, natural light, and natural colors). Many of the walls are blank and that is intentionally. My students will fill out those walls soon. It is like a blank canvas inviting 'students' to add to it (I will elaborate on this on another post...for now many pics).
I would call the following photos "preview." Hoping to show you the entire room by the end of this week. I have some scary before, and some decent after photos. I hope you enjoy them. I would love to hear from you and see what you have to say (comments, concerns, etc)...let me know.
So here is the scary before:
And here is what I have done so far:

*This picture is up for a contest. Vote for it here if you like it....It would mean a lot.
Couch: Originally from Ikea, but I purchased this one from someone on Craigslist (for a fraction of the price of a new one!!!)
Pillows and Hanging Art: Ikea
Writing Center next to the computer area and Spanish Word Wall.
Another Look for the Spanish Word Wall (still missing 2 letter. Guess???)

English Word Wall
These pocket folders will become their writing portfolios...once done you may get the whole idea.
A writing center with all the supplies any young author may need.
So what do you think?
